For many, many years, Varsity jackets (or Letter jackets) have been used to display athletic awards and accomplishments for high school and even college students.   Years ago, there may have only been 1 style of jacket, but today there are many choices - the two standard are the leather sleeved jacket that is usually worn by boys and the more feminine wool, hooded version usually worn by girls.

Varsity Jackets

To receive a varsity letter at BHS:

• the student-athlete must finish the season in good standing

• been academically eligible for the entire season

• have met the qualifying standards as set forth by the Varsity Head Coach of the specific sport.  Those standards could vary from year to year, but are established by the coach at the beginning of the season

Other athletic department awards are given on the basis of grade and number of times lettered:

• 9th grade - graduation year numbers

• 10th grade - Indian Head Patch

• 1st letter - Big B and/or sport pin

• 2nd letter and each following year - bar
